“Looking forward to meeting up this Saturday from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Franklin School of Innovation!”~ Jonathan Marchal
Our objectives for this work day include:
Spreading mulch for the full length of the trail and study areas;
Install bird feeders and bluebird houses;
Build and install benches in study sites.
Thermo Fisher folks will begin the bench building for the observation stations.
We’ll be needing wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels and cordless drills. If any parents can bring these items for the morning work, the more the merrier, for mulch-spreading! The Franklin School families will also focus on putting up the bird houses and feeders.
As a summary of what has already been accomplished, the butterfly garden has been planted and seed bombs were created. This was done by Franklin School students and local boy scouts. (See photos in Monarch Garden blog posts.)
Other work that needs to be accomplished after the work day (and hopefully prior to school starting back up) includes building and installing two small bridges (timbers already on site); and setting stones in a wet area of the trail.
Students in our Earth and Environmental Science Class will help identify and remove the invasive plants in the creek classroom area early in the school year.
That’s all for now. Looking forward to getting hands dirty on Saturday!
